PROHIBITIVE VOICE IN THE WORKPLACE: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF ANTECEDENTS, MECHANISMS, AND OUTCOMES

Resumo

A voz dos colaboradores é um tema amplamente estudado na literatura sobre comportamento organizacional. Embora as investigações anteriores se tivessem centrado principalmente nas sugestões dos colaboradores para melhorar as práticas e os procedimentos de trabalho existentes, o interesse pela voz proibitiva — as preocupações dos colaboradores relativamente a práticas ou comportamentos prejudiciais — cresceu significativamente após o estudo de Liang et al. (2012). Apesar do número substancial de estudos sobre a voz proibitiva na última década, não há uma revisão da literatura abrangente e atualizada. Este estudo aborda esta lacuna por meio de uma revisão sistemática da investigação existente sobre a voz proibitiva, utilizando a abordagem de revisão sistemática da literatura (SLR). Seguindo as diretrizes PRISMA, analisamos 135 estudos empíricos publicados entre 2012 e 2025. Os resultados revelam que a maioria dos estudos examinou os antecedentes, que classificamos em quatro grupos: características de liderança e gestão, fatores individuais e relacionais, dinâmicas de equipa e contexto organizacional. Em termos de resultados, verificou-se que a voz proibitiva influencia fatores nos níveis individual, de grupo e organizacional. Este estudo é o primeiro a identificar, analisar e avaliar criticamente, de forma sistemática, a investigação existente sobre a voz proibitiva. Contribui para a literatura ao sintetizar o conhecimento atual, identificar lacunas de investigação e delinear orientações para estudos futuros. Além disso, oferece implicações práticas para a gestão e a elaboração de políticas, ajudando os gestores a promover condições que incentivem a voz proibitiva e permitindo que os decisores políticos criem ambientes psicologicamente seguros, em que os colaboradores se sintam à vontade para se expressarem.

Alisher Tohirovich Dedahanov (PhD, Yeungnam University, Republic of Korea) is an Associate Professor at the School of Business, Central Asian University, Republic of Uzbekistan. His research has been published in journals such as Management Decision, Managerial Psychology, Personnel Review, Career Development International, Leadership & Organization Development Journal, Asian Journal of Technology Innovation, Sustainability, Symmetry, European Planning Studies, PLOS ONE, Social Behavior and Personality, and others. His research interests are abusive supervision, emotion regulation strategies, employee silence and voice.

Azizbek Mirzaev, Central Asian University

Azizbek Jamshid ugli Mirzaev is a student at School of Business,  Central Asian University (CAU), Republic of Uzbekistan. He is a member of CAU Research Club. He is striving to implement knowledge from every momentous field. He is 100% Academic Excellence Scholarship holder for 3 consecutive semesters in CAU. He took 3rd place at CAU Debate Club in 2024. 

Samida Mirdadaeva, Central Asian University

Samida Muzaffar kizi Mirdadaeva is a student at School of Business, Central Asian University (CAU), Republic of Uzbekistan.  She is studying International Business. She is a member of CAU Research Club. As part of a research team, She worked on a review of studies about prohibitive voice, looking at its causes, effects, and mechanisms.  Since her field is International Business, She finds this research important for her future, as good communication, voice and leadership are key in global business.

Aliya Asqarova, Central Asian University

Aliya Alimbek qizi Asqarova is a  student at the School of Business, Cental Asian University (CAU), Republic of Uzbekistan. She majors in Public Relations and Media Management. She has developed solid experience in PR, marketing, and media strategy. She has acted as a marketing research intern at CAU and She is currently working as an SMM Manager in CAU Research Center. She is the media team leader of 101.UZ as well. She is a member of CAU Research Club. She enjoys research, communication, and content creation. She works hard to progress in her career and her vision ultimately is to create an impact in the industry by fusing all imagination, strategic thought, and great communication skills.

Eldor Sultonkhujaev , Central Asian University

Eldor Rustam ugli Sultonkhujaev is a student at the School of Business, Central Asian University (CAU), Republic of Uzbekistan. He is a member of CAU Research Club. He is interested in workplace communication and organizational behavior. He is passionate about learning and sharing ideas, enjoys exploring how people speak up in organizations and what it means for leadership and decision-making. Through research, discussions, and academic engagement, he hopes to contribute to a better understanding of workplace dynamics and make a positive impact in the field.

Shakhrizoda Karimova, Central Asian University

Shakhrizoda Azizovna Karimova is a student at the School of Business, Central Asian University (CAU), Republic of Uzbeksitan. She is a member of CAU Research Club. She majors in International Business. The fields that interest her include business and international diplomacy. She has taken part in several exchange programs abroad to further develop her expertise in these fields. She is also very passionate about organizing different events and projects and has been the head organizer of projects like TED-Ed, Model United Nations, and mock Conference of the Parties (COP) at a nationally recognized level at her school.

Abdulkhamid Komil ugli Fayzullaev (PhD, Yeungnam University, Republic of Korea) is a Professor at the School of Business, Yeungnam University, Republic of Korea. His research has been published in journals such as Behavioral Sciences, Frontiers in Psychology, Leadership & Organization Development Journal, and Sustainability. His research interests include supervisor mistreatment behaviors, emotion regulation strategies and employee voice.
